soilSJR consultants perform Phase I ESAs, in accordance with ASTM Standard E 1527-98 (ASTM-ESA).  These assessments include a physical review of the site, investigations of past and present usage, and identification of previous and existing on-site structures and owners.  SJR staff also review documentation (i.e. aerial photographs, street directories, historical documentation, government records, etc.), evaluate site characteristics, assess adjacent properties, and draft a written report that incorporates all information obtained during the Phase I ESA.  This report communicates hazardous materials of concern on and adjacent to the site (such as asbestos, polychlorinated biphenyls (PCB), and underground storage tanks), as well as the potential for other environmental concerns.

SJR scientists utilize the ASTM-ESA format, but are also qualified to employ those formats required by Fannie Mae, the United States Postal Service, and other real estate institutions.  SJR can generally be on site within 24 to 48 hours of receiving a notice to proceed.  A standard Phase I ESA final report turnaround time is typically 21 calendar days, guaranteed.  However, SJR can perform a Phase I and complete a final report with an accelerated turnaround time, should the client’s schedule demand one.  If the Phase I ESA uncovers known or unknown contamination, SJR’s technicians can assist the client in determining what is necessary for a follow-up Phase II ESA.
