SJRE was contracted by Hensel Phelps Construction Co. (Hensel Phelps) to provide asbestos sampling, pre/post abatement inspections, air monitoring, and analytical laboratory services for the asbestos-contaminated debris and asbestos-in-soil abatement activities at the Mountain View Operations Facility project. The scope of work includes daily oversight and air monitoring during the abatement of the 23 acres located on the Buckley Air Force Base (AFB) Redevelopment site.
SJRE is responsible for ensuring an environmentally safe and successful project. Hence, SJRE drafted the Asbestos Hazard Abatement Plan (AHAP) and has assisted in the implementation of the BAFB Soil Characterization and Management Plan (SCMP) and Asbestos-Containing Material (ACM) Specification.
Prior to the start up of removal activities, SJRE’s Air Monitoring Specialist (AMS) conducted a pre-abatement inspection and obtained background samples. The purpose of this inspection was to ensure that all engineering controls necessary for this type of regulated removal were in compliance with State and Federal regulations, as well as with the CDPHE, and to create a comparative sample under “typical” conditions. Once the regulated area met the inspection criteria, the Abatement Contractor began removal activities.
SJRE is currently collecting daily perimeter and personnel air samples during abatement activities to measure the amount of particulate material in the air throughout the removal process. These air samples are utilized to verify the safety of the public and the workers, as well as to provide data that the Abatement Contractor is performing ACM removal as specified. SJRE will continue to work with Hensel Phelps to ensure the project specifications, as well as all applicable regulations are closely adhered to.
